ROOT AND OFFSPRING OF DAVID

ROOT AND OFFSPRING OF DAVID
by Pastor Jeromy John Visser

(Introduction:)

Brothers and sisters, fully understanding the deity of Jesus Christ is essential to our personal walk with Him because in order to truly understand the reasons behind His sacrifice one must be familiar with the Old Testament Laws concerning divorce and remarriage. For this reason, in today's study we'll be examining several passages of scripture that prove Yahsua Messiah is not only the Creator from the book of Genesis but also the embodiment of Yahweh as "God manifest in the flesh" (1 Timothy 3:16) or Emmanuel which means "God with us" (Isaiah 7:14 & Matthew 1:23).

(Root of David:)

"I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright, the morning star" (Revelation 22:16 ASV).

Considered "The Revelation of Jesus Christ" (Revelation 1:1), these Words spoken by our Messiah prove that not only was Jesus a direct descendant of king David but the actual creator of His Israelite race. This illustration is further elaborated upon in Yahsua's Parable of the Wheat and Tares (Matthew 13:24-30) and gives credence to the illustration that the tree of life found in the garden of Eden represents Life opposite of Satan's tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:9). Consider that Christ offers His followers eternal life (John 11:26) claiming to be the the way, truth and life (John 14:6) while Satan is considered Death personified (Revelation 6:8) thus the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).

Truly, modern Christians find themselves in a contemporary world seemingly engulfed in "death worship" to one degree or another. Indeed, every word of scripture is God-inspired and this is why Christ claimed to be and is considered the Living Word (Revelation 19:13). Man truly has no life outside of Jesus and even those who attempt to live an earthly existence without him inherit only the rewards of vanity. We must remember that Yahsua Messiah states; "Woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation" (Luke 6:24) meaning that many inherit nothing more than temporal gifts as opposed to the eternal life provided through His final sacrifice.

Also consider that the name Lucifer means "bright and morning star" (Strong's #H1966) thus Satan could be considered an "instead of Christ" or imposter desiring to be God. No man has ever "fallen from heaven" thus we must be on guard against false prophets that would teach otherwise. Paul straightforwardly warns against these same false teachers explaining; "No marvel; for even Satan fashioneth himself into an angel of light" (2nd Corinthians 11:14). The devil's children can often be found behind the pulpit pushing non-scriptural tripe under the guise of "love and tolerance." Seemingly, Satan "loves" his own as long as they trust in his lies but once a man comes into the truth of God's Word they'll no longer keep up false appearances. This is merely one way the tares can be made manifest to Christians.

(Son of God:)

"The field is the world; and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom; and the evil seeds are the sons of the Evil One" (Matthew 13:38 BBE).

When discussing these "seed" Yahsua used the literal term sperma in the Greek meaning "an offspring or remnant" (Strong's #G4690) further clarifying that "He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man" in the preceding verse. We must remember that the Apostle John teaches about these same "children of the devil" in his epistles (1 John 3:10) and, like Christ, his teachings deal with literal groups or classes of people. This concept of good and bad seed are strewn throughout all of scripture in both Testaments beginning with the aforementioned "trees" of the second chapter of Genesis.

Christians are also commanded by Christ to; "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them" (Matthew 7:15-20). Examining a man's fruits - or works - as opposed to what they attempt to convince us about themselves is the only sure-fire way of genuinely knowing the person. Hypocrites are often knowledgeable about scripture but outwardly can never "practice what they preach."

One need not be a rocket scientist to see an absence of Yahweh on earth defacto, thus when the Messiah calls Satan "the prince of this world" (John 16:11) or "the prince of the power of the air" (Ephesians 2:2) we see His descriptive statement is correct. This same devil has a literal seed - or progeny - on earth that continually works evil (Genesis 6:5 & Micah 2:1). Indeed, in this modern era we see an America and Europe that is much less Christian than it was twenty years ago. This is the great apostasy, or a falling away from the Truth of Yahweh's commandments and we mustn't make the same mistake. We must always pray for the guiding of the Holy Spirit when handling the oracles of God or else the scripture will simply make no sense to us. Only the Messiah can give us eyes to see or ears to hear.

(Image of God:)

"[Jesus Christ] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him [Jesus Christ] were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him. He [Jesus Christ] is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence" (Colossians 1:15-18 KJV).

As Christians, we must understand that ALL things were created by Jesus Christ for His own pleasure. Coupled with the crippling testimony of John claiming "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1 ASV) and later "The Word became a human being and lived here with us. We saw his true glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father. From him all the kindness and all the truth of God have come down to us" (John 1:14 CEV). Jesus should be all things to the Christian but the Word - or Logos - is yet another name for Yahsua. We only understand scripture through Jesus, this is why only He could restore sight to the blind physically while the average Christian can only achieve this act through faith on a spiritual level.

Consider that the act of raising Lazarus from the dead caused many of His enemies to run to the authorities and turn our Messiah in (John 11:46). Of all Jesus' miracles, giving life to the dead was His most controversial because it outright proved that He had the power to give man physical life, an act only attributed to God (Job 1:21). In like manner we should be "raising" those who are spiritually dead into Life through the unchanging Word of God. Only the Bible has the power to make wise the simple (Psalm 19:7) thus the genuine believer must shun profane babblings and non-scriptural tripe (2 Timothy 2:16). In like manner, only scripture is profitable for doctrine and reproof (2 Timothy 3:16), thus we must contrast the teachings of every man with the eternal Word of God.

Mankind has the unfortunate habit of developing a God complex and this truth is seen more easily the further up the ladder of "worldly success" a man climbs. From the papacy to the hippie movement, countless cults have sprung up throughout history and each one is similar in one regard - they all stumble at the Word of God (1 Peter 2:8) and eventually replace Yahweh's Truth with their own traditions (Mark 7:9). As the book of Colossians reminds us, Jesus Christ has created ALL things, this includes the genuine pastor and hypocritical false prophet. Contrary to what judeo-Christianity has taught for the last sixty years, God is undoubtedly in control of everything, including both the righteous and wicked seeds that He created for His purpose (Proverbs 16:4).

(Intention:)

Indeed, we've only touched the tip of the proverbial iceberg when examining scriptures that prove Jesus Christ is God. We must understand that Yahsua is both the Creator and Son of God because He was less than the Father while in the flesh (Psalm 8:5 & Hebrews 2:7-9). We should also notice the importance of racial purity in God's act of creating and choosing the seed of Israel to bring forth "Emmanuel, God With Us" (literally "With Us Is God"). By today's governmental standards Christ would be considered "an extremist" or "domestic terrorist." There is truly nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9), as the genuine children of Yahweh contending for the birthright we can expect to suffer many of the same hardships our forefathers did (1 Corinthians 10:13).

While it's true our forefathers suffered hardships for contending for the faith once delivered unto the saints (Jude 1:3), nobody paid a bigger penalty than Jesus Christ who laid down His life for His beloved people Israel. Through His ultimate act of love - the sacrifice at Calvary - His chosen people and bride now had the sacrificial statutes (that is to say sacrifices for sin atonement) "fulfilled" in their Creator. As God's law teaches that only when the husband is dead may his widow remarry (Deuteronomy 24:11 & 1 Corinthians 7:8), so once again steadfast Yahweh keeps his own Word allowing his people what they consider a choice.

That choice has been there since the beginning and it's always been the same - life or death. As Joshua instructed our forefathers before the promised land of Canaan; "choose you this day whom ye will serve" so also must we decide our fate. Sin leads to death (Romans 6:23) and Jesus Christ is life (John 14:6) - whom do you serve? Is it the "god" of this world or the overlord of it? We must always choose the things of Yahweh over idols and never turn aside to the erroneous teachings of self-justifying men. To the Christian Yahweh is found almost everywhere yet He's always found within the pages of His eternal Word which has been preserved exactly the way He desires it to be. War for Christ! Amen.
